Tymes Trust Alert 2011-05 Message from Jane 04 June 2011 ====== GP PROJECT PRAISED BY UK GOVERNMENT Building links with your GP ====== I thought you would want to know that our Founder Patron, Lord Clement-Jones, has received a letter from Health Secretary Andrew Lansley about our new GP Project. This project is our newest member service. Mr Lansley writes: 'I was encouraged to learn of The Young ME Sufferers Trust's work in building links with the GPs of those children suffering from CFS/ME. The lack of certainty surrounding CFS/ME poses very real problems for healthcare professionals...' ABOUT OUR GP PROJECT FOR TRUST MEMBERS (part of our Professionals Referral Service) The Trust has always believed that an understanding GP is invaluable in helping the family cope with ME. Apart from compassion, general medical care and checking out new symptoms, a supportive GP can protect the recovering child from an over-demanding education system and from unsuitable treatments such as inappropriate graded activity schemes. These schemes often involve physiotherapy and 'prescribing' increased school attendance as if it were, in itself, a treatment. Reports from parents suggest that such programmes are a common cause of distress and relapse unless the child is already substantially recovered. Our new 'grass-roots' movement aims to assist our members' GPs to take fuller account of the child and family's views and requirements, as consultant paediatrician Dr Alan Franklin always advised. If you're a member and would like to discuss how our personalised GP Project could help you, call the Trust's Advice Line Team on 0845 003 9002. TWITTER Sending out these Tymes Trust Alerts has enabled me to keep in more regular touch with everyone than before. On Twitter I generally tweet something most days. It's informative, it's personal, and it's fun! Find me @JaneCColby. I'll email again soon with other news, including how the poster campaign is going. You can buy packs of 10 for £3.35. All best wishes Jane Jane Colby FRSA Executive Director The Young ME Sufferers Trust PO Box 4347, Stock, Essex, CM4 9TE www.tymestrust.org Tel: 0845 003 9002 ====== READ ALL PREVIOUS ALERTS AND SUBSCRIBE TO MY LIST AT www.tymestrust.org To unsubscribe, send an email via the website Contact Us form. ====== You are welcome to redistribute or reprint this email without seeking our permission provided: 1) you do not abbreviate, add to, or change the text in any way; 2) the authorship information is retained; and 3) www.tymestrust.org is credited as the source.
